The Resource Center
The association, concerned with solidifying established contacts as well as to favor communication between the members, has decided to develop an information platform and internet exchange which is becoming, thanks to our members, an innovative Center of Resources and Studies of the Slave Trade.
The Resource Center’s principal objective is to apply ICT as a pedagogical tool to enhance knowledge of the slave trade history, of slavery and it’s contemporary consequences, as well as to create a space for exchange and the mutual use of information which will allow the existing network of Francophone participants from the three Atlantic continents (Europe, Africa and the Americas), actively working on the aforementioned themes, to be able to reinforce and implement them in school environments.
Presentation
Constituted of an ensemble of participants from the three continents, interested in the history of the slave trade and slavery (Europe, Africa and the Americas), the network aims to share the knowledge regarding these themes, as well as to work conjointly towards the enhancement of the studies of this shared past, to establish concrete development projects and to coordinate cultural events (exhibitions, museums, conferences, publications).
The original members of the International Alliance of the Shackles of Memory were initially various cities throughout Europe, Africa and the Americas desirous of exchanging their knowledge and viewpoints regarding the Atlantic slave trade.
Today, the Alliance is open to other participants such as associations, cultural institutions and individuals amongst the three Atlantic continents, as well as from the Indian Ocean.
