Plants have always traveled, developing surprising capacities for adaptation and transportation. This is how they were able to escape major glaciations and major climatic events. With the appearance of man, these movements accelerated with the first hunter-gatherers, then numerous military or commercial expeditions (including triangular trade), up to the recent gardener-botanists. Nantes has thus become on the Atlantic coast, a major place of introduction and acclimatization of plants from all over the world. The city of 101 gardens and its region thus continue to shelter an exceptional plant diversity.
A lecture by Jacques Soignon: Chargé de mission at Nantes Métropole, former director of green spaces for the City of Nantes, trained at the École Nationale Supérieure de Versailles.
