The Scandinavians and the slave trade - 17th-early 19th century
Tuesday May 10, 2022 - 6 p.m.
Departmental archives of Loire-Atlantique
Between the end of the 17th century and the first decades of the 19th century, Danes and Swedes, like other Europeans, took part in the slave trade. This traffic stimulated the foundation of counters in Africa and colonies in the West Indies. Beyond the mere deportation of tens of thousands of Africans, the slave trade had a real impact on national production and Atlantic trade in the two northern countries.
A lecture by Éric Shnakenbourg: Professor of Modern History. Director of the Center for Research in International and Atlantic History (CRHIA) Member of the steering committee for axis 4 of the LaBex EHNE (Writing a New History of Europe).
